Whenever I buy from small businesses, I always find the quirkiest, most unique gifts and I really love how much the owners care about the process from start to finish. They put their hard work and love into the product they create and you can tell that they really appreciate any feedback. If I’m honest, I’m also a little bored of seeing the same things pop up on my Instagram all the time. Everyone is following the same trends and that’s why I squeal with happiness when I see something new and different on my screen. If you’re a bit of a small business novice, take a nosy at some of my top picks below and do your bit to support small businesses – both this Christmas and all year round!

For jewellery lovers:

Sands and Seagulls:

There’s nothing better than being by the seaside, am I right or am I right? Well, with Sand and Seagulls, you can add a little bit of Vitamin Sea into your life, even in the winter months! The brand is created by 2 seaside lovers, Zoe and Ash, who love it that much that they even had a seaside themed wedding with a fish and chip buffet (how cute!). They’ve got everything from seaside accessories for the home, to beach inspired jewellery. Zoe kindly gifted me this necklace and I absolutely adore it. The colour is so stunning and it’s super dainty.

Cloud and Clay:

Cloud and Clay create statement polymer clay earrings that are designed and handmade by the owners. There’s plenty of gorgeous designs available but if you’re a creative genius yourself, they’re open to your custom order ideas too. What I particularly love is the fact they are suitable for us folk with sensitive earlobes; I always struggle with earrings hurting me so this is a dream come true! Oh and another plus, they have switched to plastic free packaging – yay!

For the sassy fashionistas:

Rock on Ruby:

Honestly, I am so in love with this brand it’s unreal! Rock on Ruby is for the sassy gals of this world. They’ve got a range of products, from accessories to clothing and everything is adorned with creative hand drawn illustrations and hand printed slogans. Check out this amazing Christmas jumper – it’s spice girls inspired and I mean, does it get any better?

Uniquely B:

Uniquely B is a lovely little online independent store ran by the gorgeous Becka. If you’re looking for some new pieces for your everyday style, Uniquely B has you covered, with tons of cute blouses and midi dresses. Alternatively, if you are looking to add a little sparkle into your life (it’s Christmas after all!), then feast your eyes on this adorable mini bag! It’s perfect to jazz up a classic LBD, and combined with a glitzy headband, you’ll look super festive! (both items kindly gifted).

We are girls:

Set up by the lovely Gaby, ‘we are girls’ absolutely screams girl power! Gaby stocks an array of t-shirts, tote bags and pin badges to make you gals feel empowered. Having followed her blog for some time, I know how passionate she is about her products and about making other ladies feel fabulous! She’s one to watch! PS – I can tell you now, I definitely feel like an independent woman who don’t need no man in this sassy slogan tee! *gifted*

For the foodies:

Bad dog bakery:

The tag line says it all – ‘Sweet treats definitely too good for the dog!”. I mean it when I say these are hands down some of the best brownies I’ve ever tasted and although I’m a drama queen, I aint exaggerating this time! Ellie, the owner and baker, is so lovely and you can often find her selling her goodies at Yorkshire based markets (follow her on Instagram to see when she is out and about!). My personal faves were her lotus biscuit brownies, there’s nothing better to lift your mood!

For the home:

Calligraphy by Ohhsorosie

If you follow me over on Instagram, you’ll know I love a good doodle and I have pretty decent handwriting…or so I thought until I discovered Rosie’s work! She is honestly so good at calligraphy and whether it’s wedding invites, personalised frames or Christmas baubles you’re after, Rosie has got you covered. Staying in Studio:

Another fabulous brand with a typography talent! If you’re looking for a motivational quote print, or just a saying that just sums you right up, (selectively social – yep, that’s me!) then Staying in Studio is your perfect pick! They also sell cute throws and wall decor too, which you can check out on their Etsy page. (Photos taken from staying in studio Instagram).

Sighh.studio by Polly:

Polly has just released her new wall mountras and quite honestly, they’re amazing, and I think they’d be perfect for jazzing up a study or dressing room! Along with dabbling in home decor, Polly creates accessories and stationary with sassy slogans and cute hand drawn illustrations which are equally as amazing! Tilly & Primrose:

Add a little colour to your home with Holly’s super cute felt ball creations! I saw Holly’s stall at the Etsy made local fair in Leeds and I loved her work. Her designs are totally unique and are perfect for the likes of children’s bedrooms, or to brighten up your Christmas tree this year. (Photos from Tilly and Primrose Instagram).

Penny and Me:

Yay for more colourful things! I absolutely love Shannon’s feed and all the colours and doodles on her fashion/lifestyle shots, so when I discovered she had her own little Etsy business I was a little giddy! Check her out for sassy sayings on prints and cards.

I hope that by reading my ultimate guide to shopping small, you’ve found some brand new small businesses to support this year. I really love these small businesses both for their products and the way they care about the customer. In the new year, I definitely plan on spending less cash at the high street and more on small businesses – there’s just something so special about having your own unique gift and not something every Tom, Dick and Harry has! Am I right or am I right?

If you are a fan of shopping small, drop me a comment and tell me all about your fave small businesses as I’m always on the hunt for more!
